While every study is different, currently enrolling local studies are lookihile every study is different, currently enrolling local studies are looking for individuals 6 years of age and older who:

• Have been diagnosed with Stargardt disease or Stargardt-like disease that may produce similar patterns of vision loss.
• Have some blurriness or vision loss in the center of their eyesight.
• Have never had gene therapy, stem cell therapy, or an eye microchip.

Additional criteria apply. A study doctor will determine final eligibility based on full medical criteria.

Participants in research studies should expect to experience a professional clinical environment, be treated with compassion and respect, and have access to top quality study-related care during the clinical study.

Most studies start with a screening visit to make sure a potential participant is a fit for the study. If someone qualifies, the doctor will go over an Informed Consent Form that explains exactly what to expect.

Once a participant signs that form, they may then have scheduled visits at a local study eye clinic over the next 2 years. These visits may involve standard eye exams, reading tests, and eye scans. Participants can expect to be treated with care and respect by a professional team.

No. All study-related eye exams and scans are provided at no cost. Participants may be reimbursed for travel costs and out of pocket expenses or these costs may be covered directly. They may also receive compensation for their time and effort.

There are potential risks in any clinical study. The study staff will explain these potential risks before participants decide whether to participate, and address any concerns.

No. Participants do not receive any study-related medications, placebos, or surgeries during an observational study.

No. The online form is the first step. If there may be a fit, potential participants will be asked to complete a short phone call with a patient advocate, who will go over the study in more detail and review information about your medical history.

If it seems you may qualify, the screening period begins. During this time, study staff will look at your medical records and conduct any relevant assessments to make sure you safely meet all the study rules. Study staff will also review the informed consent form with you and answer any questions.

Participants who meet all of the study criteria will then be invited to participate.

Yes. Participation in clinical studies is entirely voluntary. Even if a participant is already involved in a study, they may change their mind at any time, for any reason.
